The quality of meat is always a matter of concern for consumers as well as the government. Providing quality and sanitized meat under legal procedure is the responsibility of concerned department for which, shopkeepers and traders are authorized to run their shops.
But recent crack down on meat shops all over the UP has disclosed that thousands of meat shops were running illegally. They don’t have proper license for their shops either. The ones, who obtained the license years ago, didn’t bother to renew them at all.
It clearly indicates people were running illegal businesses for years and the government and concerned department clearly avoided and turned deaf ears to the complaints against these illegal activities.
Some shopkeepers claimed they were running their shops since British time and no government ever interrupted in their business either.
None of the shopkeepers came out with a proper license.
But now the question arises why and how these shops were never sent notices by the concerned Municipal Corporation to those shopkeepers.
This is a game of politics, where politicians play with people and uses them just a ballot box or vote bank to form the government.
One thing is legal in one’s government and the same thing becomes illegal in another’s government.
This is the responsibility of people to learn and understand licensing requirements to run a small business. Some people know they need a license but still they don’t take care of it thinking they are the part of the system and they don’t need to change.
According to law, the act of cracking down the illegal meat shop can be justified but the government should have provided a time-frame to the shopkeepers and traders to obtain the license.
